The Smoky-Eyed look
I spent an afternoon in Alyson's tutelage recently, learning new techniques and new looks. We decided to do two very different styles of make up; one based on the 1960s glamor of Audrey Hepburn and one with dramatic smoky eyes. The first look was a great deal more complicated, requiring particular attention to my eyebrows. They haven't been that well-groomed since I had them threaded a few months ago. Alyson also kitted me with intricate eyeshadow for a very mod look. She used two colors from her palette of lip glosses to make the perfect coral tone. The look was finished with a dapper hairdo. I looked vaguely like the love child of Audrey Hepburn and Brigitte Bardot.

After removing the exquisite eyebrow work with Vaseline (seriously, Vaseline. Who knew?!), I was ready for my smoky drama. This look required lining they eyes both above and below the lash line. To translate that into layman's terms, it required Alyson to stick a liner pencil in my eye. No, seriously. Like, right in there. Surprisingly, this wasn't the slightest bit uncomfortable. This is surely testament to Alyson's deft technique, although it may also signal that the Brazilian knocked out all my pain receptors. The final result was striking. My eyes really popped (in layman's terms, looked huge) and the simple ponytail hairstyle suited the look perfectly. Just to finish things off in style, Alyson highlighted two moles on my face that I didn't even know I had. But you know what they say. If you've got it, flaunt it.
