Moe's Tavern Shopper - Fall 2004 Vol. 1 By Natasha
News Flash: Moe's locked out for fall 2004 season After years of trying to frustrate us with loopy schedules, non-existent refs and oversized T-shirts, SportsMonster finally succeeded in temporarily derailing the Moe's Tavern Floor Hockey Express. For those not familiar with the situation, here's an overview: SportsMonster could only recruit two teams to play in the fall Sunday league at LPHS, ourselves and Tom's team. We played one game, during which Tom joked about hitting me in the forehead but actually hit me in the jaw. Finally, SM admitted that they would have to cancel the season. As a gesture of goodwill, one of the SM minions offered to let us play for free on Wednesdays at the dreaded Disney Magnet School. Many of the Moe's had sworn never to set foot in the claustrophobic confines of DMS again, but hey -- it was free. So we played one week there against exactly the type of hacks who like gyms that small and we really hated it. The final straw was when SM Grand Wizard Bart pulled the bait and switch, telling Moe we would have to pay our entrance fee anyway. At this point, Moe told him to cram it. Let's see him try to get people through the door without the drawing power of Moe's. The lockout has been hard on all of us. Well, OK, not me since I had that side deal with Moscow Spartak. But the rest of you suckers have been hurting. Fear not! After months at the negotiating table, Moe received Bart's assurance that the Sunday league will be reinstated for Winter 2005. We skate again in January. Until then, sleep with your stick. [News Flash ends.]
