SEASON OPENER
Game time this Sunday is 2 p.m. We've got several new folks on the team this season, so here are a few key reminders.
First, if you can't make it to a game, no big deal. Just let me know by the end of the week prior, so we can line up a sub.
Second, please try to pay me as soon as possible once I figure out the actual fee (we might still add one more person, so it's in flux.) Remember, we now have the Kelly Rule, based on an incident last season. If you happen to get hurt a second after the puck (ball) drops in the first game, you are still liable for a full season's fee. The honorable thing to do is offer to pay it. Then we will return the favor and honorably try to find a way for you not to have to pay if you have to miss a full season. (To new people: don't worry, we've only had one season-ending injury - maybe two - in 8 years.)
Third, the gym is at Lincoln Park High School, which is roughly Armitage and Halsted. More specifically, it's about half a block east on Armitage from Halsted. The gym is in the building just to the west of the big high school. Enter on the northeast corner. While some people like to show up at the last minute, showing up sometime within 30 minutes of game time is a good idea so you can warm up and chat a bit with teammates.
Fourth, because Eric will not be playing this fall, we are looking for someone to administer the Keystone Light Player of the Game program. This is an administrative position, not one in which you actually get to (or are forced to) drink Keystone Light.
Fifth, before the game this Sunday we'll quickly go over the rules for the new folks. If anyone has any questions ahead of time, just ask, but we can probably go over the rules - and our famous Moe's strategy - just before the game.
Sixth, Natasha will be handling the weekly Moe's Shoppers, our team newsletters, this season. I'm sure she'll recruit any and all of you to pitch in at least once during the season. Once you read a few of hers, you'll get the idea.
Seventh, Cate Nolan, OM (Original Moe), will play with us in a guest appearance for the opener, as she'll be in town that weekend. Marty will miss the first game. If anyone else can't make it, let me know.
